Dealing With the Great Big World - later

My last two posts covered some of the challenges posed by the roundness and size of the world, and the amount of data required to represent the world.  I've had a few ideas on that last point, compact representation of the world, that I'll develop further in a future post.  There are several published approaches as well, and some of my ideas parallel or draw from them.  I hope to have a reading list tomorrow and maybe a decent description of my ideas.

For now, I need to call it a night.  It was a long night doing Christmastime stuff, and I'd like to get up at a reasonable hour tomorrow to do yardwork and maybe get the house into a bit better shape.
